I got a new bag to hold all my music-related tools. This meant going through all that stuff item by item before putting them in their new home. That is when I rediscovered a cheap wireless system I bought two years ago and never really used.

I say cheap because I probably paid no more than $50 for it and really good wireless systems can cost hundreds. In any case, I plugged the receiver into my Boss Katana guitar amp and the transmitter into my Epiphone SG and…it worked!

This got me thinking. So I took the guitar out of my apartment and into the hallway, and shut the door. Then I proceeded to strum the guitar. I heard exactly nothing. Well, just the acoustic sound of the guitar in my hands. But nothing from the amp inside my apartment. Next time I’ll try a bass guitar/amp and see if that can be heard.

It’s nice to know that when I feel like making rock n roll sounds at 11pm at night I’m not bothering my neighbors. If it can’t be heard right outside my door, there’s no chance it can be heard inside the other apartments.

Anyway, the wireless system does indeed work. Would I use it for a performance? I don’t know. I’m not sure I trust it enough. But it still would be nice to have for a sound check. I could walk out in front of the stage to hear what we sounded like from the audience perspective. Handy.
