It’s time to admit that the Fender Jazz isn’t the bass of my dreams. I bought it to be my new daily driver, my primary bass, so that my Warwick could be my secondary. I knew immediately it would not be my main squeeze. And it’s time to admit that it isn’t even satisfying me as a secondary bass. It just doesn’t feel “right” to me. So I’ve put it up for sale. There are already interested parties.

So I found something new: The Ibanez BTB745. Or to be precise, the Ibanez BTB745-NTL BTB Standard 700 Series 5-String Electric Bass in “Natural Low Gloss.” This instrument goes for $900 new. I just ordered (practically stole) this used one for $600 and $25 shipping.

Here’s the rundown. It’s got a wide neck, especially for an Ibanez. We’ll see how I take to that. It’s got a zero fret, which is pretty cool. It’s got an extra long 35″ scale length. I think this allows for higher string tension, giving you a less floppy B string. It’s big. Will I love it? I think I might, but we’ll soon see. What’s it sound like? Well, put on your headphones and listen to this.
