My interest in US politics lately has mostly been just waiting for the department of justice to indict someone–anyone–for their role in planning the 2020 coup attempt. I’m not sure what outcome it will bring, but I feel those indictments must come or the DOJ will have just laid down its weapons and surrendered to the seditionists.
But a new gut-churning worry has emerged. I figured from the get-go that the GOP-controlled House of Representatives would become a shit show of bogus investigations and attempts to derail law enforcement from its pursuit of justice. But now, after having seen the manner in which the Republicans have elected their new speaker of the house, I wonder what else we have in store. Will the so-called “freedom caucus” hold the global economy hostage in an effort to slash Social Security and Medicare? It looks likely.
What other horrors do they have in store for us, now that they are running the show? Maybe they’ll figure out a way to hand Ukraine to Vladimir Putin. The 2024 presidential campaign will at some point become the big story in US politics, but it looks like we have an opening act to get through first.
