There’s a lot of good food in this town. Let’s break it down.

Top Shelf

  • The Norbert. Small plates. Maybe the best food in town. Try the fish tacos. So good. Make a reservation or you’re out of luck.
  • Tochi Ramen. Noodle joint. Literally everything is good here. Do not skip the brat stickers.
  • Culaccino. Italian. Fresh pasta. Incredible pizza.
  • The Poplar Inn. Kind of old school. Steaks and more. Great patio.
  • Cafe Soeurette. Gourmet. Literally my downstairs neighbor. Good cocktails and beer selection. Try their take on the juicy Lucy, the overstuffed Wisconsinite burger. And Monday is Build-Your-Own Burger night!
  • The Pearl of Canton. I’ve only been there once, but I will be back. Just one plate of beef satay stir-fry and I’m hooked. Also, any place that puts sambal olek on the table is my kid of place.
  • Ninja Japanese Steak House. Sushi or hibachi. Can’t go wrong.
  • West Bend Tap + Tavern. Pub fare. Really good pub fare. Try the Santa Fe chicken sandwich. What do they put in that guacamole?

Also Good

  • Casa Tequila. Mexican, obviously. When you have that craving they’ll scratch your itch. Chicken enchiladas with mole, or eggs with chorizo.
  • Sal’s Pizzeria. A West Bend institution. Try the lunch special. $5 gets you a big New York style slice, a garlic knot, and a drink. Also great for downtown events and delivery.
  • Ion Sports Pub. I’ve only been here twice, but I liked what I saw.
  • Krimmer’s. A little pricey. Basically you go here because you want a steak but don’t want to be seen at Texas Road House.
  • Michaleno’s Pizzeria. Their dining room is a little sparse. But you won’t care when they drop that thin crust pizza on your table. Good for takeout too.
  • Omicron Family Restaurant. Greek. Huge menu. Get an omelet. Take half home for later.

Worth Considering

  • Buffalo Wild Wings. Try the Asian Zing or the Thai Curry. Be mesmerized by the MMA on TV or play trivia.
  • The BrazenHead Pub. Pub fare. Good soups, too. Try the grilled cheese with bacon and tomato.
  • The Chocolate Factory. I’ll have the club classic, please. One of the best sandwiches in town. I’m told they have ice cream, too.
  • Culver’s. I’ll have a double with cheese. Just pickles, lettuce, and mustard, please.
  • Noodles and Company. Penne rosa with parmesan chicken and feta, please. I’m told they have other food here but I wouldn’t know.
  • Qdoba. Burrito: flour tortilla, white rice, black beans, smoked brisket, spicy queso, roasted Chile corn salsa, cheese, tortilla chips, no sour cream, thank you.
  • George Webb. Rough morning? An all-American breakfast with bacon and white toast will cure what ails you.
  • Papa Murphy’s. Take-and-bake pizza. Try the Cowboy. Or make your own. Hard to go wrong here.

Meh

  • Riverside Brewery & Restaurant. I kind of like the back patio, but they just aren’t trying too hard with the food. There’s just too many better options in town for a sit-down meal.
  • Main Street Cafe. Bland. I think this is what restaurants used to be like in the 1970s. Before Americans knew what good food was.
  • The Idle Hour Or Two. You can get an okay chicken salad sandwich here, but it’s not as good as you’d make yourself. Bring cash because they inexplicably do not take plastic.

What have I missed?
