My “Keurig K-Compact Single-Serve K-Cup Pod Coffee Maker (Imperial Red)” died a few days ago. The electronics just stopped working. When I plug it in, every light lights up (which is weird), and the buttons are non-responsive. So I ordered a new one. But that got me thinking. How much use had I got out of it before it went kaput?

I feel like I bought it five or more years ago. Maybe even when I moved into this place. But no. The record shows that I bought it in March of 2019. It cost me $59 from Walmart.

That’s 32 months, or 128 weeks, in operation. I typically have one cup every weekday morning. Sometimes on weekends I have two. Let’s call it ten cups a week. That means I got 1,280 cups of coffee out of the machine before it brewed its last, which is about 5¢ a cup. Well, plus pods and water and electricity and all.

My new one is the “Keurig K-Express Essentials Black, Single-Serve K-Cup Pod Coffee Maker.” Fifty dollars from Walmart. I wonder how long it will last.
