I was out at Meijer picking up prescriptions and picking up a few items for breakfast and lunch when I got it into my mind that this is a really good time to focus on losing some weight. I quit smoking two years ago in mid-February. In a few short months I put on about 40 pounds, going from about 220 to where I am today, 261. As the one year anniversary approached, I resolved that enough was enough. I would lose the extra weight starting at the one year mark. Quit smoking, be fat for a year, then done.
That’s when the pandemic struck. The fear. The stay home orders. The radically different way we all ate. Clearly the weight loss project was on hold for a while.
Now, though, even though things are not back to normal…they kinda are. I go in to the office every day at 9 and leave at 5. I hit the grocery store whenever I feel like it. Besides wearing a mask when I’m out, the only thing that’s changed is that I don’t eat in public spaces. All members of my quarranteam have been vaccinated. I myself contracted and then recovered, giving me at least some temporary immunity. So we feel pretty free to socialize among ourselves, even without masks.
So I bought a scale when I was out. I downloaded an app to track my progress. I’m 261 right now today. My goal is 220, or about a 40 pound loss. At a modest 2 pounds a week, I should reach my goal around August 1st. Posts on this topic will not appear on the main page of my website, but I will be updating the subject periodically.
