A few weeks ago I posted a picture of my desk at work. It showed my M1 MBA up on a stand so that I could place it next to an external display. A few things have changed. First, I got some speaker stands so they actually point at my ears. Second, the most obvious change: a new widescreen display.
This display is made by LG, is very inexpensive, and is pretty unremarkable except that it uses a 21:9 aspect ratio as opposed to a more typical 16:9 I love it. I find that I use it in exactly the same way as the previous one, but it’s just nice to have more room. I no longer have to precision-click on the edge of a background window to bring the app to the foreground. Now I can have half that window exposed behind the one in front. If you know what I mean. It’s really nice.
The MacBook screen functions as my desktop (shows mounted external drives, files saved to the desktop, etc.) and it runs Slack all day at work.
The only inelegant thing about this arrangement is when I have to share my screen using Zoom. I have to mirror the displays and optimize for the MacBook in order to avoid letterboxing everyone else’s view.
